The project is conceived around the idea of ‘letting nature flood’ – bringing the qualities of the local landscapes right up to the door step of Davies Lane Primary school. The new public realm layout now connects all school buildings at street level and forms a inviting new gateway to Wanstead Flats. This former road now includes new rain gardens and street trees, shared surfaces plus a school terrace at the gateway to Wanstead Flats.
The scheme was co-created with the Davies Lane Schools’ Eco-warrier class and their teacher. The class took part in planting the new raingardens and are now invovled in ongoing care and maintenance of these new green spaces. The project is part of the second phase of delivery for BLEN ‘Green and forms part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Low Emission Neighbourhoods’
