BLEN ‘Green Links’, an integral part of the Leytonstone Business Low Emission Neighbourhood, is focused on improving air quality and promoting sustainable living through a package of innovative street interventions in the neighbourhood of Bushwood, Leytonstone. It achieves better links between Wanstead Flats and High Street Leytonstone through improving accessibility for active travel modes, introducing new green and blue infrastructure and providing effective wayfinding information that increases awareness of local biodiversity and air quality.
The project promotes an awareness to climate change through getting the community involved in active travel infrastructure solutions from the early stages of the project though to implementation. As a communication tool we produced a narrative based around nature and bio-diversity – drawing on the qualities and importance of local landscapes and street trees. The project forms part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Low Emission Neighbourhoods’
