NO DARK PLACES FESTIVAL

From the team that brought you The Lagoon Mini-Festival at The Albert in Februrary, No Dark Places Festival is a cross-genre celebration of independent culture and ecstatic music.

Utilising the entire 7000sqm grounds of The Albert, Sinema City presents a highly eclectic programme featuring over 20 genre-defying acts, with free daytime access to comics/zine fair and workshops from 11am onwards.

From midday, an empty swimming pool will be turned into the “Lagoon” stage, which will play host to sonic experiences ranging from experimental Javanese Gamelan to the playful psyche freakout of Orchestra Elastique. At the “Pitch” stage outside, the casual festival punter will be confronted with a mixture of space jazz ensembles and complex yet uplifting polyrhythms.

To our excitement The Alternative Press Fair will be hosting a room of underground comics and self-publications, which will happen alongside letterpress printing and illustration workshops hosted by Studio Mothership and Animaux Circus. There'll also be plenty of street food and tropical refreshments.

From 8pm onwards the centrepiece of No Dark Places will unfold in the shape of a Mega Hypno-Rhythmic Party. With vintage liquid lanterns and op-art projections provided by Innerstrings Psychedelic Lightshow, a hugely excitable line-up of some of the UK's finest and most ecstatic will be intertwined with otherworldly hypnotic grooves from the depths of the within
.
Good bands, left-field ensembles, extrinsic rhythms, self-publishing fair, workshops, films, barbecues, good times.

With a total love for all music that is made with genuine convictions and a real desire to reach out, Sinema City runs specially curated parties that are celebrations of unique visions, sheer musicianship and the life-affirming exhilaration of partying.

h2dance present DUET part 1/2/3 at The Albert

After their phenomenal success at The Place Prize for dance winning the audience vote 7 nights running, Hanna and Heidi have taken up learning the guitar and drum!

‘The disconnect is funny, sometimes brutal, and always entertaining.’ The Guardian

‘The big crowd-pleaser is h2dance’s Duet, a slickly crafted, comic double act based on choreographers Hanna Gillgren and Heidi Rustgaard going into couples therapy, which punctures silliness with knife-in-the-stomach reality.’ The Evening Standard

Hanna and Heidi are currently developing DUET part 2 and 3, which will form a full evening of DUET works and premier end of October 2013. To get a taste of the work in progress please join us at The Albert on Saturday the 15th of June where you will also be treated to their Place Prize piece in a different context.

"While poverty persists there is no true freedom. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.

"And overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. Massive-poverty and obscene inequality are such terrible scourges of our times - times in which the world boasts breathtaking advances in science, technology, industry and wealth accumulation - but they rank alongside slavery and apartheid as social evils."
NELSON MANDELA

The Albert school

The Albert School on Sundays emerged from a longstanding and fruitful collaboration between a qualified teacher of science and mathematics, and a professional artis, both based in London. The school comes as a platform where one could project and instil in young people ideals of humanity and education, where skilfulness is passed on from teacher to pupils as a trait of enrichment, where knowledge is conveyed for the fulfilment of their personality.

The one hour long sessions cover the key topics of the National Curriculum for KS4 (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, IGCSE) & KS5 Physics and Maths.

Drop in for one or several of our unique GCSE Maths and Science Classes.
